John D. Bengtson
John Bengtson has represented numerous general contractors and subcontractors in a number of construction defect cases, most recently representing the design-builder of the Millbrae BART Station and both defended and prosecuted claims arising from that project. Mr. Bengtson’s litigation experience includes construction claims arising from both public and private work, and the enforcement of claims for mechanics lien, stop notice and bonds. He has also litigated a complex business dispute involving the forced redemption of a managing member of a successful limited liability company.
Mr. Bengtson began his legal career in Los Angeles with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, and then with Cooper, White & Cooper in San Francisco. Mr. Bengtson has published several articles on the international trade approval process.
Mr. Bengtson is the author of a critically acclaimed book, “Silent Echoes: Discovering Early Hollywood Through the Films of Buster Keaton” (© 2000 Santa Monica Press), and has appeared frequently on television and at film festivals to discuss silent film history. He was also the featured speaker at events hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, UC Santa Barbara, and the American Cinematheque.
Mr. Bengtson received both his B.S. (1979) with Honors (Phi Beta Kappa) and M.B.A. (1981) from the University of California at Berkeley, and graduated from the UCLA School of Law in 1983.
